Child and Youth Programs
Child and Youth Programs (CYP) operates under the auspices of the Family Care Branch. Certified by the DoD and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Afterschool Association, CYP offers nurturing, developmentally appropriate care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age on full-time, part-day, or drop-in basis. Fees for all programs are set by the DoD and based on total household income.
Services are reserved for dependents of active duty military service members, DoD civilians employees paid from APF and NAF, Guard/Reserve Component military service members on orders, Combat related wounded warriors, surviving spouses of military members who died from a combat related incident, eligible employees of DoD contractors, other Federal employees, and military retirees when space is available.
The Child Development Center (CDC) is located in Bldg. 7600 and operates Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The center is closed on weekends and on all Federal holidays. Professional curriculum and learning programs delivered by a highly qualified staff foster the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of each child.
The CDC is proud to offer one Pre-Kindergarten classroom funded from Bright from the Start with the capacity to serve 22 children. This free, first come, first served program is open to eligible children who turned 4 on or before September 1 of the current school year. The program provides a challenging curriculum designed to promote school readiness. The classroom is led by a Georgia State Certified Teacher and an Assistant Teacher. The Pre-K Program operates from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily on the Dougherty County School System schedule. Extended day programs are available for families needing additional care before or after Pre-K hours.
CYP also offers an accredited School Age Care (SAC) program in Bldg. 7600 providing daily childcare before and after school. This SAC program is a Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) affiliate and incorporates relevant learning, character and leadership programs within the curriculum.
Dynamic Holiday and Summer Camps are also available to service family childcare needs during Dougherty, Lee, Mitchell, and Worth County School System breaks. Summer Camp operates in conjunction with CDC hours. Children can attend weekly, or on a drop-in basis, depending on availability. The activity calendar includes a busy schedule of field trips to local attractions, movies, bowling, and swimming. This program is available to children from 5 to years of age. Child care services available for In Service Days/Student Holidays/Professional Learning Days for all counties.
Drop-In care is available for children aged 1 to 12 years at a cost of $5 per hour up to 20 hours a week. Children must be pre-registered with CYP. In order to make proper staffing arrangements, a twenty-four hour advance notice is required. Reservations for Drop-In care should be made by contacting the CDC Program office at 229-639-5765. A courtesy notice of cancellation is requested in the event care is no longer required.
Standard hours for CDC Drop-In care are Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sponsors are required to provide all necessary diapers/pull ups and wipes as applicable. Drop-In Care is not available for infants.
SAC Drop-In services are available after school Monday thru Friday until 5:00 p.m. and Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. during Dougherty, Lee, Worth, and Mitchell County School System breaks.
Consideration for changes to these hours will be made on an individual case by case basis. Emergency situations arise without notice and should be immediately directed to the CDC Director, or Manager in charge, for review and resolution.
Special Event Care is offered in support of Command and MCCS activities. An abbreviated enrollment package is required for special event childcare services. If additional care services are requested at a later date full CYP enrollment package and related fees will be required. A Parent Advisory Board meeting is held quarterly. Any parent or legal guardian of a child enrolled in the Child Development Center can attend and participate on the Advisory Board. For more information or for meeting dates, contact 229-639-5765.
All families must register and submit Requests for Care with www.MilitaryChildCare.com before processing through the local Central Enrollment Office.
